OUR FAMILY DOGS
Portuguese Water Dogs in our household are working dogs. They require a family that can be active and give the dog consistent attention. If you enjoy the outdoors, or if you are active in canine sports this could be the dog for you. PWDs require regular grooming at least once every 6 weeks and have a tendency to be more vocal than other breeds. Their coat can range from a very tight curl to a very flat wave. The coat colors are black, brown, and white. Theses dogs were bred to guard fishing fleets. They participated in many fishing activities and were trained to retrieve fishing gear.
"This seafaring breed was prized by fishermen for a spirited, yet obedient nature, and a robust, medium build that allowed for a full day's work in and out of the water." PWDCA
