OUR FAMILY DOGS

Portuguese Water Dogs in our household are working dogs. They require a family that can be active and give the dog consistent attention. If you enjoy the outdoors, or if you are active in canine sports this could be the dog for you as they excel with a firm, training, family. PWDs require regular grooming at least once every 6 weeks and have a tendency to be more vocal than other breeds. Their coat can range from a very tight curl to a very flat wave. The coat colors are black, brown, and white. Theses dogs were bred to guard fishing fleets.  Don't be surprised when they bark at the mailman. They participated in many fishing activities and were trained to retrieve fishing gear. They are a biddable breed and stay near.

"This seafaring breed was prized by fishermen for a spirited, yet obedient nature, and a robust, medium build that allowed for a full day's work in and out of the water." PWDCA

My Foundation girl, Valli is a brown PWD with a loose curl, almond shaped eyes, a moderate amount of bone, and lovely movement.  She is 50 lbs, and 20" at her withers. She finished her AKC Championship on January 28th, 2023. She went on to achieve her GRAND CHAMPION in 2025.  In 2021 - 2025 Valli certified with AWDA in HRD/Search and Rescue and has titles in agility, obedience, and water. She is currently training for the courier level. Valli recently was recertified in OPEN WATER for detecting human remains.  I can't not be more proud of the girl she has proven to be. Valli is no longer breeding and instead will be enjoying searches for the missing. She will be serving her community with pride and dedication.

This guy right here is why I am breeding PWD's.  I always offered that I would do all genetic testing required so he could contribute to the gene pool.  Luckily, after 9 years he had his chance.  He was my first pwd and continues to amaze me each day with his antics.  He's now fixed at almost 12 years old but still has an amazing career.  He is a certified human remains dog and with speed and agility excels in the wilderness. He loves to cuddle and serve his human Mom and Dad with pride and loyalty. He will always be my #1 boy.  Each time he competed in water and passed a courier level, I cried and cried.  We have come a long way from our first strokes in the water. Now his favorite position to be is right by my side me anywhere I may be.

At Seawind Portuguese Water Dogs, we believe in testing for all health clearances recommended by the

Portuguese Water Dog Club of America.

Health tests are recorded in the Health and Litter Log and on the OFA website.

2025 News

Miss Valli just recently participated in a human remain seminar at Natchez Trace State Park.  She is now certified in open water for the second time for detection of human remains in water. She works with accuracy and dedication.  Here are some photos from the trip.
